Best way to use sodium Metabisulfite | Gold Refining

I just got my sodium metabisulfite and I am trying to precipitate my gold out of solution. My question is does it drop as a white powder or a brown prowder. Is the pH important to the drop. I need your help guy's. Could someone tell me exactly how much to use and if it is better dry or mixed with water. Joyce
